Statement on behalf of the Council of Tatars of the World, dedicated to the second anniversary of the events in the city of Baymak (Republic of Bashkortostan)

January 17, 2026, marks two years since the bloody events in the town of Baymak in the Republic of Bashkortostan. At that time, Moscow, with the support of local authorities, staged a trial against Fail Alsynov, one of the leaders of the Bashkir national movement.

Thousands of people who came to support their leader were beaten by riot police and titushki simply for defending their rights and dignity.

The authorities were shocked that the Bashkirs fought back against this lawlessness.

Following these events, the system launched a veritable manhunt against the participants of the peaceful protest. Nearly a hundred people were sentenced to enormous prison terms, and one man was beaten to death. People who weren't even in Baimak that day were convicted! All in accordance with Putin's "legal" norm.

We note that these events have generated widespread public attention and have become the subject of close attention from the international community.

On this day, we remember all those who suffered as a result of these events. We stand in solidarity with the families of these heroes.

The Tatar people, connected to the Bashkir people by centuries-old bonds of brotherhood, history and culture, support their aspirations for freedom and independence.

We are always there for you! Bergalep enerbek! Bergә – kөrәshә!
