Dear brothers and sisters – Karachays and Balkars,
On this mournful day, as we commemorate the anniversary of the deportation of your people, the World Tatar Council expresses its deep sympathy, fraternal solidarity, and remembrance.
81 years ago, the brutal Stalinist regime committed one of the gravest crimes against humanity – the forced deportation of an entire people from their native land. Tens of thousands of Karachays were torn from their homes and sent to distant regions under inhumane conditions. This tragedy left an indelible mark on the fate of every clan and every family. Yet the strength of spirit, faith, and resilience of your ancestors gave them the inner power to endure this ordeal with dignity.
We, the Tatars, as a people who have also endured repression, exile, and the destruction of our statehood, deeply understand the pain of loss and humiliation inflicted upon your nation. We share with you the memory of those who perished on the journey, died in exile, and never lived to see their return home.
At the same time, we honor the strength of the Karachay-Balkar people – a people who survived, preserved their language, traditions, culture, and dignity. Your return to your native land is a symbol of unbroken spirit and faithfulness to your roots. We are kindred peoples. Our languages are almost identical, our faith is one, and our destiny is shared.
The World Tatar Council bows its head before the blessed memory of the victims of deportation and expresses confidence that the brotherhood and unity of our peoples will only grow stronger.
May the unity, brotherhood, and mutual support of our peoples continue to strengthen in the future. May it be our destiny to achieve freedom together.
Together – forever!
